Zell
Miller, aka Zig Zag Zell
Former Governor of Georgia.
Currently
Senator Protem, appointed by Governor Roy Barnes to fill in for the
late U.S, Senator Paul Coverdale.
In 1991, this
self-serving, integrity challenged politician declared a reduction in force,
thereby disposing of hundreds of state employees, including many older
workers. He said that his intent was to cut govrnment expense.
However, he simultaneously condoned appointments of political
cronies to state positions.
He appointed
and supported Department of Corrections Commissioner Al Garner, who risked
the lives of prison staff and prisoners and forced the state to spend
thousands of dollars for defending law suits resulting from his highly
publicized reckless and abusive policies and directives.
He obligated
the tax payers to local tax and millage increases by pandering to the teachers
union and its demands for outrageously exhorbitant salary increases.
Although in
1991 he vowed to be a one-term governor, he aggressively sought and won
re-election for a second term. Now, he wants to run for U.S. Senator
in the next election. If the voters don't stop him, he is likely
to succeed.
